Run for Camp Hope’s Field Trip Fundraiser!!!

26 10 2010

UrbanPromise needs your help to raise $4,000 for Camp Hope’s special end of year field trips! The UPH staff will be running in a half-marathon on November 6th to raise money for Camp Hope’s Special Field Trips.

We will be taking the kids from Camp Hope on special  field trips that give them the opportunity to experience new and exciting things, culturally, historically, and educationally, during the month of November while they are on break from school.

Special Field Trips

Grades 1-2 – Mayan Ruins : 10 kids will visit the famous Mayan ruin site located right here in Copan. Although it is a popular tourist destination, many children at Camp Hope have never visited this historical site, located basically in their backyard!

  • Park Tickets - $4 per child
  • Special tour - $30
  • Lunch - $3 per child
  • 5 youth leaders - $100

Grades 3-4 Mayan Ruins and Hot Springs: 10 kids will visit the Ruins and the local hot springs, Aguas Calientes, for swimming and a picnic.

  • Site Tickets - $4 per child
  • Ruins Tour - $30
  • Hot Springs – $5 per child
  • Lunch – $4 per child
  • 5 Youth Leaders – $160

Grades 5-6 Weekend in San Pedro Sula: Our oldest kids at Camp Hope are nearing the transition from camper to leader. After a year of learning and serving as great examples, we are rewarding them with a 3 day trip to San Pedro Sula. They will learn about the history of Honduras at the Anthropology Museum, be broadened culturally as they explore the local market, place their feet into the Pacific ocean for the first time when they visit the beach, and have their first experience at a movie theater!

  • Transportation - $400 per day
  • Museum - $3 per child
  • Meals - $12 per child per day
  • 5 Youth Leaders – $500

Youth Beach Trip: Our youth group has matured from 2 or 3 fickle teenagers to 11 highly committed and dependable young leaders. This 3 day trip will be a time for them to celebrate this year’s achievements, reflect on their growth and experience a side of Honduras many of them have never seen. They will visit the coastal town of La Ceiba, getting some much deserved R&R at the Jungle River Lodge after a year of hard work.

  • Transportation- $325 per day
  • Food - $12 per youth per day

Participation on the field trips is incentive based. Each child has to earn 25 incentive points at camp over a given period of time to be eligible. As the doors opened to camp last week, the kids rushed past the leaders fighting their way to see how many points they had accumulated the day before!

We are raising the money through a new program on our website (www.urbanpromisehonduras.org) called ChipIn that allows our supporters to donate quickly, easily and view the progress as we get closer to our goal.

Help support Camp Hope’s Special Field Trips!
1. Go to our website, www.urbanpromisehonduras.org

4. Type in the amount you would like to give along with your card information and then you can review your purchase.

Hi UPHonduras Team!
What a fabulous opportunity for these kids!!! I’m so excited for this! I will need to see how much I’ll be able to give to this project! As a non-affiliated third party … I also want to encourage others to help support this project! Imagine living your whole life with barely even leaving your home town? Apart from the great incentive and reward, this is such an important part of letting kids see the differences in culture, costumes and history even in their own country! Much love and blessings to you all!
